The Bulka desktop app
Bulka ships as a desktop app for Windows, Linux and macOS: all of Bulka runs locally. Download the latest version.
- Windows installer
Bulka_<version>_x64-setup.exe→ a “Bulka” shortcut. Installs without admin rights and updates itself from new releases. - Windows portable
Bulka-portable.zip→ unzip →Bulka.exe. Nothing is written to the system: delete the folder and the app is gone. - Linux
Bulka_<version>_amd64.AppImage(runs on any distribution, updates itself) orBulka_<version>_amd64.deb. - macOS (Apple Silicon, macOS 13.5 or newer)
Bulka_<version>_aarch64.dmg. The app is not notarized by Apple: start it once, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → “Open Anyway”. If macOS says the app is damaged, runxattr -cr /Applications/Bulka.appin Terminal.
What’s inside
The app starts a built-in server and opens a window: the full Bulka without a browser. Windows 10/11 x64 needs WebView2 (Windows 11 has it; otherwise the installer fetches it).
Local and private
- Keys, settings and recordings stay on your machine: on Windows in the app folder (
webview-data,recordings), on Linux in~/.local/share/app.bulka.desktop, on macOS in~/Library/Application Support/app.bulka.desktop. - Close the window and everything stops (no server left running in the background).
- Recordings and WAV exports go to the
recordingsfolder, and the folder opens after saving.
Desktop-only features
- Built-in MCP server: an external Claude Desktop / ChatGPT / Cursor drives Bulka.
- Local models (LM Studio / Ollama): the Bulka chat on your local model, no cloud.
Building from source
Repository timoncool/Bulka, folder desktop/ (Tauri v2):
bash desktop/build.sh builds the app for the current OS, bash desktop/pack-portable.sh the Windows portable,
desktop/build-linux-docker.sh Linux in Docker. Details are in desktop/README.md.
